What Is Super Cruise?
Super Cruise is Cadillac’s latest driving assistance feature. It is truly hands-free and improves driver safety on certain approved roads. Drivers will simply press the Adaptive Cruise Control button in their Super Cruise-enabled Cadillac vehicle. Once the system identifies a compatible road, the designated icon turns white, indicating it’s ready to be activated. Then, push the Super Cruise button, which will turn green to confirm activation. What Models Will Feature Super Cruise?
The Super Cruise system will be available on newer Cadillac CT6 and Escalade models, including the brand-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade. This latest Cadillac Escalade will also come equipped with the automatic lane changing feature, which shifts lanes using automated commands.
What Is Needed to Use the Super Cruise System?
In addition to a newer Cadillac vehicle equipped with the Super Cruise system, you will also need an active subscription, a good cellphone connection, and a GPS signal to use Super Cruise. These requirements are crucial because the Super Cruise requires your vehicle is connected with the Cadillac Connected Services. This service uses a data connection to gather important information like real-time traffic and exact positioning to make your driving more effective and convenient.
Your active Cadillac Connected Services membership will also come with OnStar Emergency Services. If Super Cruise is activated and a collision is detected, or the driver stops responding, the service will automatically send for roadside help. All Cadillac vehicles are equipped with three years of Cadillac Connected membership, although you will need to renew after that.
What Features Does Super Cruise Include?
Super Cruise comes with features designed to improve driver safety and attention on the road. That’s why it adds adaptive cruise control and lane centering, which work together to provide drivers with a hands-free experience. Additionally, Super Cruise also includes an alert system, which encourages drivers to focus on the road. The first alert in this system flashes to gain your attention. If you don’t respond, a second alert activates — flashing red — and taking over your steering wheel if necessary.
Sometimes, a driver might not respond to these first two alerts. In that case, the voice feature will activate, requesting the driver to take control of the vehicle. Should the driver still not react to this request, the vehicle will slowly come to a stop and call for help. All hands-free features will then disengage until help arrives.
