1. Diamond Valley Lake

Diamond Valley Lake is located a little under 30 miles northeast of downtown Temecula: a distance that can be covered in about half an hour by car along route I-215 and Domenigoni Parkway. Besides fishing, this reservoir and its surrounding areas are also an excellent destination for boating, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, and picnicking. Most public recreation facilities are located along the northeastern shores of the lake, not far from the small town of Hemet.
2. Skinner Reservoir

Getting here from the Temecula downtown area takes about half an hour by car, driving along route CA-79 and Winchester Road.
Also known as Lake Skinner, this artificial reservoir was created in the early 1970s with the construction of the nearby Skinner Clearwell Dam. Nowadays, it has a surface of about 1,400 acres and is surrounded by a large public recreation area with fully equipped campgrounds, picnic spots, and other facilities. The Skinner Reservoir area is well-known for its extensive hiking and mountain biking trails, and the lake is also open for boating, sailing, canoeing, and kayaking.
3. Lake Henshaw
Covering a little over a thousand acres of surface area, Lake Henshaw is another artificial reservoir featuring great opportunities for fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, and other water activities. This body of water is located about 35 miles southeast of downtown Temecula, making it possible to reach it in less than one hour by car along route CA-76.
